Why Racks Are Becoming Critical Infrastructure

    Persistence Market Research projects the global rack market will grow from US$7.5 billion in 2026 to US$13.5 billion by 2033 – driven by cloud expansion and AI workloads that can exceed 100 kW per rack.

    At those densities, the cabinet must support heavier hardware, direct-to-chip liquid cooling, intelligent monitoring, and more complex power distribution.

    These requirements also affect the wider facility as rack specifications influence floor loading, cooling architecture, maintenance processes, and how easily capacity can be expanded as computing demand changes.

    Edge computing adds another layer. Smaller deployments in factories, telecommunications sites, and retail environments need compact, rugged systems that can be monitored and maintained remotely.

    Racks were once treated as a relatively standard procurement item, but AI is making them an important early design decision for any facility expected to support high-density computing.
